Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has put forward a proposal to the State President asking him to ratify a WB financing agreement for a Mekong delta irrigation management project.
The financing agreement specifies a 160 million USD loan from the World Bank for improving irrigation management in An Giang, Ca Mau, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu, Kien Giang and Can Tho.
The project aims to protect and better the use of water resources in these localities while maintaining benefits reaped from farming activities in order to raise local people’s living conditions and increase their adaptation to climate change.
It is designed to improve agricultural production and fish farming on a total area of 120,000 ha, upgrade canals and irrigation system, help 80,000 households gain access to safe water, and mitigate salt intrusion-caused losses to agricultural production./.
