The World Bank (WB) has approved an aid package worth 25 million USD to help the Lao Government deploy the second phase of the poverty reduction project in the country.

The project aims to reduce the rate of poor households nationwide from 20 percent to 10 percent in the next five years.

It is expected to help the mountainous regions of Laos to keep pace with and integrate promptly into the country’s development through the community development activities.

More than 2,500 villages at 38 districts of ten provinces of Laos will benefit from the project.

The first phase of the project that was implemented in 2003, contributed to eradicating hunger and alleviating poverty effectively for more than 2,000 mountain villages at 30 poor districts of Laos ./.
