WCS helps protect wildlife in Lam Dong and Dong Nai
The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is helping prevent illegal trading of
wildlife through a project, which has been carried out in the Central Highlands
province of Lam Dong and the southern province of Dong Nai.

The two provinces have been chosen as they boast large acreage of forests with high bio-diversity and many rare animal species, which are in the list of the endangered like yellow-cheeked gibbon, blacked-shanked douc langur, Asian elephant, Bos gaurus, Javan rhino, Crocodylus siamensis, Arborophila davidi and starred pheasant, according to the WSC.
In addition, the two provinces are also considered as transitional areas for illegal wildlife trafficking to Ho Chi Minh City .
The organisation has coordinated with relevant agencies in Vietnam to hold training courses on preventing and fighting illegal activities and raise people’s awareness about the matter through the media.
Dr. Scott Roberton, project’s manager, informed that the project will organise more training courses for cadres of relevant agencies in the two provinces in order to strengthen their capacity in the field.
The project started in 2008 and will run until the end of this year./.
