Eight crew members went missing after two ships collided in waters off central Khanh Hoa province on the November 9 morning, according to the Office of the National Committee for Search and Rescue.

En route form the northern port city of Hai Phong , the Phuc Xuan 68 ship, with 11 crew members on board, collided with Nam Vy 69, which was traveling from Phu My port in southern Vung Tau city to the central city of Quy Nhon.

The former sank and its only three crew members were rescued by the Nha Trang Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (Nha Trang MRCC) after three hours of floating in the sea.

Search and rescue operation for the eight missing is ongoing in spite of bad weather condition in the area.

In another waterway accident, a boat on the reservoir lake of Dong Nai 4 Hydropower Plant in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong’s Bao Loc district sank on the evening of November 8.

The six people on board included five staff of local forestry firm Loc Bac State Operating Company, who were escorting a man they caught illegally cutting down trees to the local authorities.

Three company employees were able to swim back to shore. The other two disappeared along with the logger. The body of one company staff was found and the search for the others continues.-VNA
