A week-long abnormal heat wave has been forecast for northern and central Vietnam from this weekend with top temperatures of between 33-36 degrees Celsius, warns the National Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting Centre.

Farmers sparked a fire in a 3,000 sq.m buffer zone of the Kien Giang National Park in Kien Giang province’s Phu Quoc District when they fired rice stubble last Thursday, reported park director Pham Quang Binh.

More than 31,000 ha of the park’s core and about 6,000 ha were put at an extremely dangerous fire-risk Level Five./.
