An Giang (VNA) – Heavy rain and strong wind across the Mekong Delta province of An Giang on July 23 caused one dead, wrecked and blew away roofs of 1,192 houses, and inflicted serious damage on local assets and farming.

According to a preliminary report from the office of the municipal steering committee for response to climate change and search-rescue mission, affected localities include Tinh Bien, An Phu, Phu Tan, and Cho Moi districts and Tan Chau town.

The victim was a resident of Tinh Bien district who was struck by lightning while herding ducks on the field.

After the disaster, local authorities visited affected families, helped them secure temporary shelters and gave them necessities and rice.

Commune-level police and military forces have been assisting residents in moving assets and repairing their houses, while safeguarding local security and order.-VNA
