A ceremony to award prizes for winners of a contest entitled “ASEAN community of solidarity and prosperity” was held in the capital city of Hanoi on July 19.
The contest, jointly organised by the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) and the National Committee on ASEAN, aimed to raise people’s understandings on ASEAN and create widespread advocacy for cooperative programmes between Vietnam and ASEAN as well as the establishment of the ASEAN Community by 2015.
The contest has lured the participation of numerous VOV listeners, including foreigners, since it was launched in early this year, said the organisers.
Speaking at the ceremony, Surin Pitsuvan, ASEAN General Secretary spoke highly of the good performance of Vietnam as ASEAN chairmanship over the past six months and said that the contest had helped people more understand about ASEAN, especially when Vietnam is taking the chairmanship of ASEAN.
The first prize worth 5 million VND was given to Vu Tien, a retired man from Binh Han district in the northern city of Hai Duong while the two second prizes belonged to Vu Dinh Ky, a veteran in Kim Thanh district, also in Hai Duong province and Bui Thi Ngo from Ba Dinh district, Hanoi .
In addition, there were three third prizes and five consolation prizes./.
