Cartoonist Ha Xuan Nong has won first prize in the 2 nd biennial Vietnam Press Cartoon competition under this year’s theme “Traffic during integration”.

Nong won for two cartoons titled “Three stages” and “Late lesson.”

Two second prizes were granted to Le Anh Phong for the cartoons “Exploring implicit beauty” and “Coaches” and to Tran Quyet Thang for “Solution to congestion” on April 1.

In addition, Phong also received a special prize, the Bamboo Dragon Cup, for his high-quality drawings.

The contest’s organising board also granted two third prizes, four consolation prizes and one prize for the popular favourite selected by Internet users.

The contest drew 400 entries which reflected the boom in private vehicle ownership, roads under construction, the degradation in traffic culture and people’s poor awareness of traffic laws.

The contest was named after the drama Bamboo Dragon by Nguyen Ai Quoc, who later became President Ho Chi Minh, and who was the pioneer of the Vietnamese press cartoon. The contest is open to Vietnamese and foreign amateur and professional cartoonists living in Vietnam.

After being exhibited in Hanoi, outstanding works from the contest will be put on display in HCM City in early May.

The Vietnam Press Cartoon competition is an initiative of the Sports and Culture magazine of the Vietnam News Agency and was launched in 2007 on the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the birth of the Vietnamese press cartoon in 1922./.
