Women's Asian Cup draw: a chance for Vietnam

The hosts of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Championship 2014, Vietnam, have been pitted in Group A alongside Japan, Australia and Jordan after the draw for the tournament was held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 29.
The hosts of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Women’s Championship 2014, Vietnam, have been pitted in Group A alongside Japan, Australia and Jordan after the draw for the tournament was held in Ho Chi Minh City on November 29.

Group B includes the Republic of Korea (RoK), China , Thailand and Myanmar .

The Women’s Asian Cup will serve as the qualification contest for the FIFA Women’s World Cup to be held in Canada from June 6 - July 5, 2015.

Accordingly, the top five nations from the AFC Women’s Asian Cup will earn a ticket each to Canada .

The reigning World Champions Japan, current Asian champions Australia , the RoK and China , are the favourites to win the first four tickets to the world tournament.

The remaining teams will battle it out for the last ticket through a play-off match between the third best of each group.

Vietnam see an opportunity to win third place in Group A since they only have to battle Jordan . Vietnam have never lost a game against the Middle Eastern country before.-VNA
