Hanoi (VNA) – The Vietnamese women’s team beat hosts Uzbekistan 2-1 in their first match in the second qualifying round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Tashkent on April 3.

The Southeast Asian champions need to top the group to advance to the next stage.

The Vietnamese women needed only seven minutes to open the score with a goal by striker Huynh Nhu.

However, a mere four minutes later Kuchkarova Ugiloy equalized for the hosts.

Shortly after the break, midfielder Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung secured the victory with a successful penalty.

In the other match of Group B, Hong Kong had a goalless draw with Jordan.

The next round of matches of April 6 will see Vietnam face Hong Kong and Uzbekistan take on Jordan at the Transportation Institute Stadium.-VNA
