Work begins on first mercury-free zinc-manganese battery factory

Binh Phuoc (VNA) - Constructionof Vietnam's first factory producingmercury-free zinc-manganese battery began on November 29 in the southern province of Binh Phuoc.

Covering more than 30ha in Becamex-BinhPhuoc Industrial Park, the factory has total investmentcapital of 15 million USD.

Financed by Singapore-invested GPPD Limited Company,the factory is designed to provide 936 million products annually with 336million in the first phase and 600 million in the second phase.

The first stage of the factory is slated forcompletion in June, 2020.

The province has to date this year lured 38foreign-invested projects, capitalised at 350 million USD,70 percent higher than the yearly target.

The latest addition brings the number offoreign-invested projects in the province total up to 230, valued at 2.4billion USD. Of the total, 24 projects were invested in Becamex -Binh Phuoc Industrial Parkwith total registered capital of more than 410 million USD./.

Domestic consumption up over 13%, tourism continues strong growth

The total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenues in August were estimated at 679.8 trillion VND (26 billion USD), up 1.6% from the previous month and 14.9% year-on-year. In the January-August period, the figure reached 5.24 quadrillion VND, representing a 13.3% increase year-on-year.

Hanoi moves to maintain appeal to FDI inflows

In the first eight months of 2026, the capital city attracted more than 3.7 billion USD in FDI, equivalent to 83% of the plan set for the year.
