Construction of the Tan Nam-Mon Chay bridge over the Vam Co Dong river in the southwestern province of Tay Ninh began on April 2 in a joint effort to make it easier for people living along the border between Vietnam and Cambodia to travel, trade and increase their business opportunities.

The project, including 77.28m-long and 8m-wide bridge and a 1.5km road section connecting to the province’s border belt, has a total investment of 44 billion VND (2.2 million USD).

The bridge is located in Tan Nam village in Tan Binh commune, Tan Bien district, spanning across the river to Cambodia ’s Prey Veng province, some 120 km east of Phnom Penh.

Speaking at the event, Chairwoman of the Tay Ninh Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy said the project will encourage cross-border trade and economic activities between people along the border, contributing to the border region’s economic development and cultural exchanges.

The project is expected to be completed in 18 months.-VNA
