Construction of Nam Can Bridge, the final bridge on Ho Chi Minh road that links Pac Bo in the northern mountainous province of Cao Bang with the Mekong delta province of Ca Mau, got underway on August 29 in Ca Mau province.
The ground breaking ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Dinh La Thang as the Ministry of Transport is the project’s main investor.
Nam Can Bridge , at 3,390 metres long and 12 metres wide, will span the Cua Lon River that links up the districts of Nam Can and Ngoc Hien in Ca Mau province.
Deputy Transport Minister Nguyen Ngoc Dong said the National Assembly and the Government have paid a lot of interest to the Ho Chi Minh road and Nam Can Bridge projects. This underlines the great significance of these projects to the socio-economic development of Ca Mau province in the Mekong Delta region and the whole country, from north to south.
The bridge will have two lanes, a speed limit of 80 kilometres an hour and will cost over 650 billion VND to build.
It is scheduled to be completed in 18 months.
Once finished, the bridge will help to complete the Ho Chi Minh road and perfect the transport system that links up the country’s key economic zones, industrial zones and residential areas, in line with the transport and socio-economic development strategy for the southern region.-VNA
