Construction of a new headquarters for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs kicked off in Hanoi on August 27 at a cost of 3.5 trillion VND (196 million USD).

The new headquarters in Me Tri commune, Tu Lien district, will replace the current one, which will be repurposed as headquarters for national assembly agencies.

Covering 7.1 hectares, the project includes a complex of three buildings of 13-14 storeys, a transport system and other features, such as a garden and a lake.

This is the first time Vietnam’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has built a new headquarters since it was set up 64 years ago, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said at the ground breaking ceremony.

Therefore, he added, the complex, in terms of its location, utility, and aesthetics, should be worthy of its role as the new nerve centre of Vietnam’s foreign affairs during its renovation and development process.

The headquarters has been designed by the Republic of Korea-based Heerim Company, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, adding that it has selected the RoK’s architectural design firm among 23 entries from 20 domestic and foreign consulting companies./.
