Work to improve Vuc Lake in the capital’s Long Bien district kicked off on March 14, marking the beginning of a project on inner-city lake protection and preservation proposed by the Hanoi People’s Committee.

The total cost for the improvement will be 20 billion VND (1million USD), invested by the Him Lam Joint Stock Company. The company will dredge the lake to increase its depth by 3.5 metres, embank it and create a clean and green environment surrounding it.

The project is expected to be carried out within six months and completed by the time the city celebrates its 1,000 anniversary.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Secretary of the city’s Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi asked the investor, constructors, supervisors and related authorities to make their best efforts to complete the project as scheduled while ensuring its quality.

The city’s Department of Construction was asked to promptly work out and submit regulations on managing and protecting city lakes and promoting their historic, cultural and functional values.

From now to the end of April, municipal departments must cooperate with district People’s Committees and investors to finish all preparations for the improvement of 15 lakes in the project.

Currently, the 10 inner districts of the city have 112 lakes, of which 46 already have stone embankments. Among the 66 lakes still not upgraded, 21 have received investment.

The city is calling for more investments for the 45 lakes left from domestic and foreign enterprises, organisations and individuals. According to the Construction Department, the total capital that would be spent on the 45 lakes was 1.4 trillion VND (78 million USD).

Enterprises that contributed to the lake improvement project would be given some investment preferences such as land usage fee exemptions and reductions, land clearance fees and corporate income tax reductions.
Enterprises, organisations and individual’s registrations to support the projects should be sent to the Department of Planning and Investment at 16 Cat Linh street, Dong Da District. Website: www.hapi.gov.vn ./.
