The construction of a 500,000 tonne-per-year fertiliser plant kicked off in Kandal province of Cambodia , 40km east of capital city Phnom Penh on Dec. 24.

The project is a 65 million USD joint venture between the Vietnam Five Stars International Group and the Investment and Development Company of Cambodia (IDCC), a local branch of the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).

Addressing the ground-breaking ceremony, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen spoke highly of the project, saying it will not only aim to ensure fertiliser supplies for Cambodian farmers but also generate jobs for locals.

He stressed the project is symbolic of the two countries’ developing friendship and cooperation for mutual benefits.

The Cambodia Five Stars International Fertiliser Plant is scheduled to operate after 24 months of construction.

With three advanced production lines imported from Japan , China and the US , the plan will produce high-quality types of fertilisers for various plants in different ecological areas in Cambodia .

It is also expected to create jobs for some 500 Cambodian workers./.
