Workshop aims to boost ties with Africa

A Vietnam-Africa International Workshop to promote co-operation for sustainable development will be held in Hanoi from August 17-19.
A Vietnam-Africa International Workshop to promote co-operation for sustainable development will be held in Hanoi from August 17-19.

The workshop, the second of its kind, is intended to continue the dialogue between Vietnam and Africa, said the Foreign Affairs Ministry's Western Asia - Africa Department director Nguyen Van Doan.

"It is also a chance to assess economic cooperation and device policies and breakthrough measures to make it more sustainable and effective," he said.

Delegates would discuss food security, agricultural co-operation, poverty reduction, trade, investment and the development of labour for economic recovery.

More than 30 international delegations have confirmed their intention to attend.

The first workshop was held in Hanoi in 2003. Vietnam has commercial links with all 54 African nations.

Trade turnover between Vietnam and Africa increased from 360 million USD in 2003 to 2 billion USD in 2008, double the target set in the 2004-10 action plan./.
