Ninh Thuan (VNA) –
Ninh Thuan has themost potential in Vietnam to develop wind and solar power, heard a workshopheld in the south central coastal province on October 3.

Deputy Director of the provincial Department ofIndustry and Trade Dao Van Rot said six wind power projects in the provincehave been launched so far, including three that have officially been put intocommercial operation with a combined capacity of 117MW.

Meanwhile, 15 solar power projects have been putinto commercial operation with a total capacity of 1,063MW, he added.

However, due to overload, nine of the 15 solarpower projects have had to reduce their output to ensure safety on the transmissionlines.

To address the issue, General Director of TrungNam Group Nguyen Tam Tien said his group has asked the Ministry of Industry andTrade and the provincial People’s Committee to approve investment to build a500kV power transmission line in the province.

Director of the provincial Department of Scienceand Technology Le Kim Hung suggested the Party Central Committee’s Commissionfor Information and Education should ask the Government to issue a new decisionreplacing the previous one dated on April 11, 2017 on mechanisms to encouragethe development of solar power projects.

Local people must also be kept informed about landclearance compensation and environmental issues related to energy projects, headded./.
