The wreckage of a shrunken commercial ship dating from the 19th century has been successfully fished out the Lo River in the northern mountainous province of Tuyen Quang.
According to a preliminary report by the ship salvation force, the bronze-skinned ship is 41m long, 8.8m wide and 1.9m high.
As many as 477 items on board were also fished out, including five paraffin lights, a crystal bulb, a watch and 200 kilograms of coal.
The steam-engine ship was detected resting 15m from the bank of the Lo River in An Khang commune in Tuyen Quang city.
Experts said that the ship, which is rare in Vietnam and the rest of the world, is a valuable part of marine history and can shed light on trade between Vietnam and other countries in the world in the 1800s.-VNA
