The Vietnamese team won two silvers and two bronzes in the 2009 Asian Junior Wrestling Championships, which drew to a close in Manila in the Philippines on July 12 after four days of competition which attracted 14 national teams.

Nguyen Thi Lua lost to Nodoka Nishi from Japan in the final of the girl’s 48 kg category and missed the chance to take the title, which the Asian bronze medalist’s trainers had pinned their hopes on. The road to the final witnessed Lua defeat many strong rivals such as Tsogtbaatar Byambazaya from Mongolia and Gilmura Isakova from Kazakhstan .

The Japanese showed they were too strong for the Vietnamese wrestlers after Tran Dieu Linh was defeated by another Japanese in the final of the 51 kg category final.

However two bronze medals were won by Vu Thi Mai in the 44 kg category for girls and Ta Hong Tuan in the boy’s freestyle./.
