Hanoi (VNA) – President of the Vietnam Writers’ Association (VWA) Huu Thinh has called on Vietnamese writers, both at home and abroad, to use the power of literature to strengthen the national solidarity.

Thinh made the call at the opening of a meeting in Hanoi on October 20 that gathered more than 100 writers at home and from 12 countries around the world. The first-ever event was themed “Writers with the mission of fostering national solidarity”.

The VWA said that working for national unity will give more power and freedom to writers in seeking new ideas.

He stressed that the VWA always considers the literature life of the Vietnamese community abroad as an inseparable part of the country’s literature.

Over the past years, the association has introduced and published many works of overseas Vietnamese writers, while holding events to promote Vietnamese literature abroad, he noted.

Thinh said that the meeting aims to promote writers’ social responsibility in connecting the Vietnamese community at home and abroad to preserve and promote the tradition of patriotism and create a collaboration mechanism between the writers and the association as well as encourage them to create more works serving the people and culture development of Vietnam.

He also expressed hope that the event will open a new chapter in the unity of Vietnamese writers from all walks of life to make common contributions to the growth of Vietnamese literature.

Within the framework of the five-day meeting, delegates will visit the Vietnam Museum of Literature and the Hung Kings’ Temple in Phu Tho and Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh.-VNA
