Officials from the Steering Committee for the Southwestern Region wished a Merry Christmas to Protestants and Catholics in the southern province of Vinh Long on December 16.

Deputy head of the committee Duong Quoc Xuan recognised the contributions made by Catholic and Protestant dignitaries and followers to the locality’s economic development and social welfare, as well as charitable activities.

He said he hopes that the priests will continue encouraging religious followers to actively response to patriotic emulation movements in a joint effort to enhance the national solidarity.

Pastor Nguyen Thanh Kinh, head of the Vinh Long chapter of the Vietnam Protestant Association in southern region, pledged to call on parishioners to follow the policies of the Party and the law of the State and make more contributions to the local socio-economic development and security maintenance.

Catholicism and Protestantism are two major religions in Vietnam, with nearly 7 million and over 1 million followers, respectively.-VNA
