Vietnam ’s young athletes won 13 gold medals on the first day of the 8 th Southeast Asia Youth Athletics Championship which opened in Ho Chi Minh City on June 7.

Truong Thi Thuy Kieu won a gold medal in the girls’3,000m event; Nguyen Duc Chinh and Le Trong Hinh won gold in the boys’ and U21’s 100m.

Nguyen Thi Oanh and Nguyen Thi Huyen came first in the girls’ and U21’s 400m hurdle, while Nguyen Thi Truc Mai finished first in the girls’ long jump and Nguyen Thi Haoi Nhi added another gold in the girls’ high jump.

BuiThi Trang also won gold in the girls’ U21 javelin.

Seven countries namely Vietnam , Thailand , Brunei , Malaysia , Indonesia , the Philippines and Singapore sent their representatives to the annually event for young athletes, which closes on June 8.-VNA
