As many as 450 young talents who are studying or working both at home and abroad gathered at the first congress of Vietnamese young talents in Hanoi on Sept. 13.

Addressing the event, Ho Duc Viet, Politburo member and Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC), said the Party and State have, over the past five decades, pursued a consistent policy of discovering, training and employing talents, including young persons.

With support given by the Party and State, many young talents have become renowned people both domestically and internationally and they have made huge contributions to their home country, he said.

Viet, who is also Head of the CPVCC’s Organisation Commission, praised the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union’s creativeness in proposing and organising revolutionary action movements for the youth in general and young talents in particular, as well as pioneering in national construction and defence.

The Party official asked the union to make greater efforts to encourage young people to achieve better results in studying and working.

The union should take an active part in building and implementing a national strategy on talents and adopting proper policies and mechanisms to discover, train and take full advantages of talented youths, Viet added.

At the congress, participants put forth four major directions for the years to come, including renewing ways to gather young talents both at home and abroad, improving the youth union’s capacity in this field, giving support and creating favourable working conditions for young talents, and working as an advisor for the Party and State in training and employing talents.

On this occasion, a council for support of Vietnamese young talents made its debut with former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan acting as President./.
