The Tien phong (Vanguard) newspaper on March 19 announced 10 individuals who will receive the 2013 Vietnamese Exemplary Youth awards.
Selected from 121 nominees nationwide, the 10 laureates are those who have achieved excellent accomplishments in learning, scientific study, creativity, social contribution, defence and security and sports.
Among them, the youngest is Nguyen Duong Kim Hao, 13, from Nguyen Gia Thieu Secondary School in Ho Chi Minh City.
Meanwhile, the eldest is Captain Mai Hoang, 35 years old, from the Sub-department of Public Security of Van Ho district, the northwestern province of Son La.
Swimmer and Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, 18, from the Vietnam People’s Army, will also be awarded with the accolade. Vien won three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze at the 27 th SEA Games in Myanmar in 2013 .
Presented by the Ho Chi Minh Youth Union Central Committee, the award aims to highlight role models for the young generation.
The awards will be granted by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in Hanoi on March 22.-VNA
