Vietnam reported 1,211 cases of the A/H1N1 flu resulting in one death as of  5 pm on Aug. 11.

According to the Health Ministry’s Preventive Health and Environment Department, among the 33 newly detected cases confirmed on Aug. 11, the South reported the highest number, 16, the North, 10 and the central region, 7.

To date, 883 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital, while the remaining 328 are under quarantine and being treated.

A patient with Downs syndrome in Ho Chi Minh City, who was infected by H1N1, died of respiratory distress, said Director of the municipal Health Department Nguyen Van Chau.

This was the first death confirmed in HCM City. However, the Health Ministry has not yet provided a reason for the fatality.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has reported 212,008 confirmed cases of H1N1 flu in 168 countries and territories worldwide with 1,717 deaths as of August 11./.
