The two day meeting of environment ministers from Southeast Asia countries concluded on November 29 by approving proposals which will be put before the United Nations Climate Change Conference, to be held in Copenhagen , Denmark from December 7-18.

Speaking to the press after the meeting in Hua Hin, Thailand, the Thai Minister of the Environment and Natural Resources Suwit Khunkitti, said that the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN) had agreed to try and limit global warming to 2 degrees C or keep CO2 concentrations to below 450 parts per million. ASEAN members will draw up policies and put measures into force to ensure these targets are reached, the minister stated.

Also during the meeting, the ministers agreed with setting the level of contributions from developed countries to a central fund to help developing countries limit their emissions, at 0.5-1 percent of their Gross Domestic Product (GDP)./.
