A team from the SOS Children’s Village in southernmost Ca Mau province on May 28 emerged victorious from Vietnam’s 2014 national football tournament for underprivileged children.

The Ca Mau SOS team lifted the trophy following a sweeping 6-1 victory over a team from Viet Tri city, northern Phu Tho province, in the final.

The competition, which took place in northern Thai Binh province from May 23-28, was jointly held by the Nhi Dong (Children) newspaper and the non-governmental organisation SOS Children’s Villages in Vietnam.

Sponsored by the PetroVietnam Exploration Production Corporation (PVEP), the tournament attracted 14 teams from SOS villages nationwide.

Teams from northern Hai Phong city and Go Vap district (Ho Chi Minh City) bagged runners-up medals. Nguyen Duc Vu of the Ca Mau team was named the best goalkeeper of the competition, while the golden boot award went to the prolific Nguyen Van Dong of the Hanoi team.-VNA
