A large number of overseas Vietnamese (OV) gathered in Atsugi city, Kanagawa prefecture, Japan on May 12 to enjoy renowned Cai Luong (reformed theatre) pieces performed by famous artists from Vietnam.

Earlier, the artists, including Bach Tuyet, Kim Tu Long, Thoai My and Phuong Loan, had performed the pieces in several destinations from Kansai to Kanto.

Counsellor of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan Ngo Trinh Ha said the first-ever Cai Luong programme in Japan is the second cultural exchange activity in this year jointly held by the embassy for the Vietnamese community. The first was a Tet programme with the participation of more than 300 OVs.

The activities aim to encourage OVs to celebrate 40 years of the two countries’ diplomatic ties and introduce Vietnam’s traditional culture to the Vietnamese community in Japan, particularly second and third generation OVs who have less contact with the Vietnamese culture.

At present, there are about 147,000 overseas Vietnamese across Japan.-VNA
