Around 5,000 photography lovers are taking part in the 2014 Canon PhotoMarathon that began in HCM City on October 4, setting a new attendance record for the competition in Asia.

Being organised for the ninth year, the competition has become an essential forum for photo enthusiasts of all ages to exchange, learn, experience, and compete with each other. Contestants range in age from 13 to 80.

The event seeks out the essence of Vietnamese culture as is reflected by the topics given to contestants.

Canon PhotoMarathon originated in Singapore. In Vietnam, it is open to people of all nationalities.

It was held earlier in Hanoi, attracting 3,000 contestants.

The winner will join other winners from neighbouring countries for a nine-day trip to three Japanese cities.-VNA
