China talks of cooperation with ASEAN on COC

Hong said China and the ASEAN have agreed to maintain dialogue on the foundation of the earnest and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), according to Xinhua news agency.
The two sides will create conditions for negotiation and consensus to reach an eventual code of conduct, he was quoted as saying.
In July, ASEAN announced the Six-Point Principles on the East Sea , reaffirming the association members’ commitment the full implementation of DOC and the early conclusion of a COC.
They also committed to continue exercising self-restraint and non-use of force, as well as resolve disputes peacefully in accordance with universally recognised principles of International Law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The ten-member ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-VNA
