Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung issued an order to start the construction of the Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway in the Mekong delta province of Tien Giang on Nov. 29.

Speaking on the occasion, PM Dung said that investment in modern infrastructure facilities, especially an expressway system, is one of the decisive breakthroughs for Vietnam’s industrialisation and modernisation.

He emphasised the significance of the Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway, which will help boost the socio-economic development in the Mekong delta, when it connects with the Ho Chi Minh City-Trung Luong expressway in 2013.

The Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway project is part of the North-South expressway scheme that has been approved by the PM.

The expressway has starts at the Than Cuu Nghia crossroad at the end of the nearly-completed HCM City- Trung Luong expressway in Tien Giang and has the last point being the approaching road to My Thuan bridge.

The 54km four-lane expressway will be built at the cost of 19 trillion VND (1 billion USD) by the BIDV Expressway Development Joint Stock Company (BEDC).

The total investment came from the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV) and is expected to be retrieved in 34 years from toll fee collection./.
