ASEAN senior officials have proposed the Code of Conduct in the East Sea be discussed at the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) in August, announced Secretary General of the Malaysian Foreign Ministry Othman Hashim on June 8.

He also unveiled other suggestions for further discussions, including turning the region into a nuclear-weapon-free zone as well as proposals to include Norway and the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea as ASEAN dialogue partners .

As scheduled, ASEAN senior officials and representatives from ASEAN dialogue partners China, Japan and the Republic of Korea met in Kuching, Malaysia on June 9 to prepare for the AMM and other functions.

The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), established in 1967, consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.-VNA
