Customs officials at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat international airport on June 10 uncovered 77 elephant tusks weighing a total of 110 kg being smuggled into the country.

The ivories worth 4.4 billion VND, allegedly imported from Nigeria, were hidden in a package previously declared as containing personal belongings.

Last year, the Government issued a direction banning the trading of samples of some wild animals, including elephants.
