Indonesia has deployed security forces nationwide in a bid to ensure security for the legislative and presidential elections scheduled for April 9 and July 7, respectively.

Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander General Moeldoko said the TNI has put in place plans to cope with emergencies at all levels, particularly to ensure safety for all presidential candidates.

Meanwhile, National Police Director of General Crimes Brigadier General Herry Prastowo confirmed that the Indonesian Police (POLRI) has deployed 253,035 officers to secure the general elections. At the same time, special mobile taskforces have been set up to shore up security in areas with high risks of instability such as Aceh, Maluku, Papua and Poso.

According to Indonesia ’s General Election Commission, more than 186 eligible voters are expected to cast their votes at 545,778 station polls nationwide.-VNA
