The realisation of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by the end of this year would benefit Indonesia, said Indonesian Vice President Jusuf Kalla.

The country will have a huge market, abundant natural resources, and competitive workers, the Vice President said on April 27.

He also highlighted negative effects of the AEC on the Indonesian economy, saying the country has to strengthen its weak sectors in facing the AEC and improve efficiency.

At the 26th ASEAN Summit on April 26 and 27 in Malaysia, ASEAN member countries discussed the regional economic growth, which slowed as a result of the global crisis, he said.-VNA
