A mock young parliament where students from across the nation act as members of the national assembly has attracted a large number of participants. The model has helped improve young people’s awareness and role in the country’s law and policy making process.

Youngsters acting as members of the Committee of Education are presenting a topic on education reform, including advantages and disadvantages of the current education programme.

It took students four months to prepare for this event with a lot of research and meetings with leading experts in the field.

Besides education, the young MPs also focus on laws and policies relating to culture, economy, environment, diplomacy, science-technology, and healthcare.

As a former parliament delegate, Professor Nguyen Lan Dung is deeply interested in the mock parliament.

As many young Vietnamese don’t pay attention to the country’s important policies, the mock young parliament project, which won the 2016 exchange alumni small grant competition held by the US Embassy, is hoped to inspire youngsters’ aspiration for a more developed society.-VNA
