An art show convened at the Hanoi Opera House on late June 16 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Mozambique (June 25), featuring Mozambique’s national art troupe performing traditional and modern African ballets.

The event was also intended to mark the 40th Anniversary of Mozambican Independence.

In his opening speech, Mozambican Ambassador to Vietnam Gamiliel Munguambe said Vietnam and Mozambique have maintained a strong relationship as the two nations work to boost cooperation in politics, trade, culture, education and telecommunications.

A series of events will be organised in the Mozambique capital city of Maputo and Hanoi, notably the Mozambique Cultural Week held in Hanoi from June 13-19 featuring sporting, cultural and cuisine activities, the ambassador added.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien highlighted the solidarity between the peoples of the two countries and their support for each other in both previous national struggles for independence and in modern day economic development.

This was the first time the Vietnamese public was able to enjoy the taste of Mozambique’s rich culture, he noted, hoping that the show alongside upcoming celebrations would bring Vietnamese people closer to the African country’s people and landscapes, strengthening the bilateral relationship.

Mozambique’s national art troupe has received numerous awards overseas and toured across the globe.-VNA
