Thailand's new Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra officially took office on August 8, becoming the first female prime minister of the country.

At the official inaugural ceremony, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra pledged to reunite the troubled nation after years of turmoil.

The freshly-endorsed prime minister admitted that being a female premier is a challenge, but she vowed to try her best to restore peace, harmony and reconciliation in the country.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra also said her Cabinet lineup would be finalised in a couple of days.

Earlier on the day, Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej endorsed Yingluck Shinawatra as Thailand 's 28th prime minister. The endorsement came after the House of Representatives on August 5 elected Yingluck as prime minister with support of 296 from 500 lawmakers in the lower house of parliament./.
