A conference on preparations for the exercise was held by the Military Zone 5 High Command and the Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee in neighbouring Da Nang city on May 23, said the Quan doi Nhan dan (People’s Army) Newspaper Online.
Participants at the conference briefed on preparations for the exercise in response to earthquake and search and rescue (SAR) and discussed contents, locations and participating forces in the exercise.
According to Major General Nguyen Quy Nhon, Deputy Commander of the Military Zone 5 High Command, this large-scale exercise will help check and assess the leadership and management ability of the local party committee and authorities, the steering board of flood prevention and SAR at all levels, as well as coordination among relevant forces.
It will also contribute to raising public awareness of measures to response to any earthquake, he added.-VNA
