Hanoi (VNA) – The Philippines and Qatar on April 16 signed trade agreements worth 200 million USD during the final stop of President Rodrigo Duterte’s tour of Gulf states.

Philippine Secretary of Trade and Industry Ramon Lopez said that 6,000 jobs would be created in the Philippines from the 13 agreements inked between two countries’ businesses in health, national defence and tourism.

Several Qatari firms are interested in projects in the Philippines thanks to the many investment opportunities in the country, he added.  

President Duterte visited Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar during his Gulf tour. The three countries combined are home to more than 300,000 Filipino labours. Remittances contribute greatly to the Philippines’ economy. According to President Duterte, overseas Filipinos sent home more than seven billion USD in remittances last year.-VNA
