President Truong Tan Sang has sent a letter to Vietnamese students who attended international Olympiads, applauding their outstanding performance at the contests.

In his letter, President Sang especially praised the six students who brought home three gold medals and three silvers from the 54th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) that took place from July 18-28 in Columbia.

With the achievements, the Vietnamese team ranked the seventh among all participant teams, up two places from last year.

The President highlighted the fact that Vietnam has been in the top ten places for 26 out of 37 IMOs it has attended so far.

“Your accomplishments as well as those recorded by Vietnamese students at other international Olympiads have proven Vietnamese people’s brain power, which is one of the important factors to get our country forward to be on a par with world powers,” he said.

Earlier, four students competing at 45th International Chemistry Olympiad in Russia brought home one gold and three silvers while all four students attending the 24th International Biology Olympiad in Switzerland claimed silver medals.

Vietnamese students also won two golds, one silver and two bronzes at the 2013 International Physics Olympiad in Denmark and two silvers and two bronzes at the 2013 International Olympiad in Informatics.-VNA
