Quang Nam (VNA)
– The central province of Quang Nam’s Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem, an important political, military, economic and cultural centre established in 1602 in the Nguyen Dynasty was recognised as a national relic site on June 12.

The recognition ceremony, coinciding with the 415th anniversary of the site, was organised by the provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Addressing the event, Deputy Director of the Ministry’s Heritage Department Nong Quoc Thanh hailed the recognition, saying that it reflects the efforts of the state to promote the site’s value and the gratitude the people have for their ancestors.

It also honours the values of the Vietnamese modern script in the nation’s modernisation and integration, Thanh added.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Le Tri Thanh said the province has paid attention to studying, preserving and promoting the cultural value of Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem. It was recognised as a province-level relic site in 2008.

The recognition reaffirmed the historical and cultural values of the site in connection with the introduction of the Vietnamese script, Thanh said.

Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem Palace was built in 1602 by Lord Nguyen Hoang in place now Dien Phuong commune of Dien Ban town, 10km from Cua Dai beach.

The first school teaching the romanised script was also built in Dinh Tran Thanh Chiem.-VNA
