Quang Nam (VNA) – Search and rescue forces of the central province of Quang Nam are making all-out effort to look for people who were missing when a dam at Song Bung 2 hydroelectric plant in the locality broke on September 13.

The dam at Song Bung 2 hydroelectric plant in Nam Giang district, Quang Nam province broke in the afternoon of September 13 due to prolonged torrential rain, sweeping away two workers working at the site.

Learning about the accident, local authorities and plant-owned company officials went to the scene and directed measures to search for the missing workers and those who are yet contacted with, said Huynh Khanh Toan, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee.

As by 9 am on September 14, local authorities have yet contacted with 11 other local people, including 10 in La ee commune who were going afforesting and a man in Zuol commune, who was looking after cattle. These people did their work before the dam broke.

According to initial statistics, the Song Bung 2 plant incident affected five lowland communes of La ee, La Dee, Cho Chun, Cha Val and Zuol, Nam Giang district, and swept away three local houses and machineries working at the construction site.

The construction of Song Bung 2 Hydroelectricity plant was started in late 2012. As the fourth largest hydroelectric plant in Quang Nam, it has a total capacity of 100 MW. It is expected to start power transmission later this year.-VNA
