Hanoi (VNA) – A 6.5-magnitude
earthquake struck Mindoro island of the Philippines on June 15, according to the
German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
Meanwhile, the
US Geological Survey (USGS) said the earthquake
had a magnitude of 6.2 and its focal depth was estimated at 125
km.
The Philippine seismology
agency said it also recorded a 6.2-magnitude earthquake. It also warned
of aftershocks and possible damage.
Witnesses
said tremors could be felt in the capital city of Manila and adjacent provinces.
The Philippines lies along the "Pacific Ring of
Fire" which is surrounded by numerous active faults and trenches on both
sides of the archipelago, so it frequently records seismic activity./.
