More than 50 Vietnamese and Japanese volunteer students took part in planting 1,500 mangrove trees and aegiceras around Dau Go cave of Ha Long Bay in the northern province of Quang Ninh province on July 15.

The students from Osaca University and Quang Ninh Medial College together with officials and youth from the province actively participated in the activity, launched by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) despite the bad weather.

This is a meaningful activity, helping protect the environment in Ha Long Bay, and contributes to tightening the Vietnam-Japan friendship and strengthening the relationship between the youth of the two countries, said Yoshiaki Kitaya, a professor from Osaca University and also a representative from JICA.

Additionally, JICA will continue helping Quang Ninh province solve environmental pollution issues, aiming to develop a sustainable system for Ha Long Bay.

Growing mangrove forest is part of activities within the JICA Ha Long Bay project, jointly implemented by the provincial People’s Committee and JICA from 2010 to 2013. It helps improve public awareness of environmental protection and the ecological environment in the bay in particular.-VNA
