Thailand has announced its plan to sharply focus on seafood catch and exports to make the country a seafood hub of ASEAN by 2015.

The plan stems from a strategic research conducted since last October, focusing on increasing output and quality of seafood while maintaining sustainable production and reducing costs.

The plan says that Thailand will bolster quality management in all processes from breeding and manufacturing to exporting in efforts to meet the requirements of importers and international standards, contributing to improving the competitiveness of Thai fish products.

Thanks to easy access to aquatic reserves from the Pacific and Indian Ocean, Thailand is abundant in marine resources, receiving around 6.6 billion USD from seafood exports each year, accounting for 1.5 percent of its GDP.-VNA
