Thanh Hoa (VNA) – The central province of Thanh Hoa launched a Humanitarian Month on May 7 with many activities designed to support vulnerable groups on the occasion of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day (May 8).

At the launching ceremony held in Ha Trung district, organisations and individuals donated nearly 16 billion VND (687,000 USD) to fund activities during the month.

Addressing the ceremony, Chairwoman of the provincial Red Cross Society Trinh Thi Tiep highlighted the importance and meaning of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement, which extends a helping hand to vulnerable people in the community.

The society called on all people in the province to donate to help those in need and reported that it gave support to more than 352,000 persons last year at total funding of more than 75 billion VND through such models as charity fairs, “cow bank”, “compassionate kitchen” and volunteer clubs.
