Tien Giang (VNA) – The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang plans to promote ecotourism in combination with environment protection.

The province expects to lure 2.2 million tourist arrivals by 2020, 40 percent of whom are foreigners, said Nguyen Ngoc Minh, Director of the local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Tien Giang has attempted to meet the target by offering incentives for businesses investing in ecotourism development projects and re-designing tourism spots. 

The province also plans to develop Thoi ​Son Islet into a provincial tourist attraction.

There are some new destinations in Tien Giang, including the Dong Thap Muoi tourist area and Truc Lam Chanh Giac monestary which serves spiritual life of residents in Tien Giang and the southern region. 

Tien Giang is home to 70,000 ha of orchards with numerous locally special fruits and a dense river and canal networks which benefit ecotourism development in the province.

Since the beginning of 2016, the province has welcomed 1.2 million tourist arrivals, including 393,600 foreigners, an increase of 5.6 percent against last year. Tourism revenue hit 3.5 trillion VND (157.5 million USD), up 10.7 percent compared to 2015.-VNA
