Hanoi (VNA) – A total of 14,510 traffic accidents happened across Vietnam this year to December 23, killing 6,700 people and injuring 10,804 others, the National Traffic Safety Committee has revealed.

The figures represented year-on-year decreases of 17.6 percent in the number of cases, 12.12 percent in the number of fatalities and 20.7 percent in the number of injuries.

In the year, 8,177 road accidents killed 6,575 people and injured 4,354 others. Meanwhile, 91 railway accidents left 71 dead and 23 injured. Sixty-two accidents on waterways claimed the lives of 44 people and injured seven, while 10 people were killed in 14 maritime accidents.

In December alone, 1,525 traffic accidents claimed 652 lives and injured 1,152 others, down 13.45 percent, 0.61 percent and 22.27 percent year-on-year, respectively./.
